Add Categories in WordPress Blog Posts

We just went over how to create a blog post in WP Now we will learn how to add Categories. You can add categories from within your post or outside your post from the dashboard. If you know what categories you want try adding them from the dashboard – access the Posts -> Categories page first. Follow this well written tutorial for the rest of the instructions to add categories from the Categories page.

Creating Categories while in your post. While in your post scroll to the gray bar at top right. You are probably on Block so choose Document tab. This gives you an entire new listing of choices such as Categories and Featured image.

Categories are a great way to organize your posts. Choose Add New Category Link. You can fill in your category and your Parent Category or Scroll down for an already determined Parent Category. For instance if you have a cooking blog you might choose Recipes as your parent category, and then add Desserts, Quick Breads and Salads as your Categories that will come under your Parent Category.

To Add Categories to your Website Navigation Menu: Once a category has been assigned to the post, and the post is published, edit the navigation menu to add the category page:
